about
A music setting for my reading of a poem by Edgar Allan Poe. Written in 1827, the poem is basically a how-to for having weird psychic experiences.
lyrics
Thy soul shall find itself alone
'Mid dark thoughts of the grey tomb-stone;
Not one, of all the crowd, to pry
Into thine hour of secrecy.
Be silent in that solitude,
Which is not loneliness- for then
The spirits of the dead, who stood
In life before thee, are again
In death around thee, and their will
Shall overshadow thee; be still.
The night, though clear, shall frown,
And the stars shall not look down
From their high thrones in the Heaven
With light like hope to mortals given,
But their red orbs, without beam,
To thy weariness shall seem
As a burning and a fever
Which would cling to thee for ever.
Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish,
Now are visions ne'er to vanish;
From thy spirit shall they pass
No more, like dew-drop from the grass.
The breeze, the breath of God, is still,
And the mist upon the hill
Shadowy, shadowy, yet unbroken,
Is a symbol and a token.
How it hangs upon the trees,
A mystery of mysteries!

William Shaw: mandolin, scary violin
Haunting psych-folk inspired by the English landscape and the spirits of the ancestors. I play 12-string guitar, harp, piano, cornamuse, whistle and whatever else comes to hand. Now working full time with Marvin B Naylor.
Gentle and hypnotic but exquisitely crafted, and with a deep and genuine presence to it, like stirring up nature spirits as you tread the leaves in the woods. Rebsie Fairholm
Soaring, lush, cinematic instrumentation, thoughtful lyrics and melodies you can't get out of your head. Rich, dark and gorgeous, this is the chocolate fudgecake of prog rock! Rebsie Fairholm
Modern psychedelia par excellence. Shimmering, melodic, haunting and uplifting at the same time, and all underpinned by Marvin's unique style of 12-string guitar. He has a really nice voice too! Rebsie Fairholm
Lush, moody folk-derived music sure to appeal to metal fans, the latest from Wolcensmen is awash in gorgeous keys & mournful melodies. Bandcamp New & Notable May 2, 2020
